There was something special in the air in the 1990s - a real sense of excitement and innocence - and perhaps that's why the decade's so hot right now. Fashionistas have been careful to cherry-pick the very best of 90s fashion and combine the pieces to redefine the look. Fear not, our guide is here to help with the key pieces and ways to wear them.
You couldn't go out in the 1990s without one. The same goes for today. Chockers suggest holidays in Morocco or days lazing on the beach in Ibiza.

Wear yours with a figure-hugging boldly patterned summer dress and those quintessential 90s sandals, Birkenstocks.
Call them dungarees if you will, just make sure you have them in your wardrobe this season. Wear them as naked as you dare on holidays, or more modestly around town with a simple T-shirt underneath. Roll up the trouser legs to expose your ankles, 1990s style, above a simple pair of canvas trainers, Converse preferred, naturally.
The easiest, you'd think, and the go-to hair accessory of the 1990s. Now the bandana is a far more versatile accessory, worn around the neck.

Layer casually over a white T-shirt and jeans to dress up your look, or tie it and tuck it into a boyfriend-style shirt.
Who could forget? With a pair of ankle-high jeans, the crop top gives you the opportunity to show a little flesh, but not too much. Choose cosy mohair or simple cotton: but keep the colour simple. The cut is all, and wear only if it flatters.
Simple to wear and flattering too. There's a lot to love about high-waisted jeans and we're delighted this most 1990s of denim styles is back where it belongs.

Wear with a crop top and chocker. Choose ankle length or simply roll up the legs above high-top trainers, with no socks.
Choose one of your own shirts or - better still - sneak one out of your boyfriend's wardrobe. The look is a nod to grunge, so tie loosely for a "never mind" style. Casually tie around your waist for Saturday morning shopping in denim shorts and a t-shirt.
If you thought we'd already hit peak leopard print, think again. The 1990s loved leopard print and this season there's no such thing as too much of it.

Do double leopard - think leopard t-shirt over denim jeans with leopard trainers - if you dare. Our advice: do it!
If you're wearing boots this season, make them high. Try them with denim cut-offs, or dress them up for your evenings out in that little black dress. Around town, team canvas leopard print trainers with knee-high socks - right up as far as you can pull them - for a key 1990s look.
