This article will show you how to organise your wardrobe like a pro so that it will reflect your own personal style and taste.
Seasonal change is a great thing. Who doesn’t look forward to the first sign of summer sun or the first snowfall in winter? However, this transitional time of year creates other problems such as knowing which clothes to put on each morning.
Each season brings with it new trends, leaving us women (despite having a bursting wardrobe) with the feeling that we have nothing to wear. A perfect wardrobe might seem like an illusion- something only the rich and famous can afford. However, this article will show you how to organise your wardrobe like a pro so that it will reflect your own personal style and taste.
Describe your style. First of all it’s important to know what your own personal style consists of. Without even looking in your wardrobe make some bullet points about your preferred everyday look, taking note of everything from colours to cuts. If you’re not satisfied with what you see on paper, perhaps think about what style you would like to have. The complete list should help you to move closer to your dream look.
Get inspired. The good news is that you don’t have to be super creative to have your own style. If you don’t feel up to putting together an outfit that will turn heads, all you have to do is steal from others! Use different mediums such as fashion magazines, Instagram and Pinterest to collect some new ideas and save them in a folder. However, as most trends won’t last long, perhaps opt for a select few looks that really catch your eye. Better still, you should look out for styles that you will be likely to wear in years to come.
Clean out your closet. Once you’ve settled on your desired style it’s time to start cleaning out that closet. We all know how difficult it is to get rid of old clothes but if you haven’t worn something in a year, chances are you won’t wear it again. Opt for quality over quantity and you should be left with a wardrobe full of clothes you will actually wear regularly.
Back to basics. How would you describe your perfect wardrobe essentials?1. Jeans2. Basic T-shirts3. Leather jacket4. Ankle boots…Although it’s fun to stand out from the crowd in quirky clothing, we have to face the fact that wardrobe basics are essential for everyone. Is your wardrobe already well equipped when it comes to everyday items? Or do you always find yourself lusting after that one perfect coat that would complete all your outfits? If so, then it’s time to get it! The good news is that it’s ok to splash out on wardrobe basics now and again because you will probably wear them more than you would ever imagine.
Key pieces. Choose some key pieces that will bring the wow factor to your wardrobe and make your style appear more individual. This can be anything from an eye-catching jumpsuit to a trendy oversized jacket. If you like it and feel comfortable in it then it will say a lot about your personal style. These pieces will be more seasonal, so perhaps keep them to a minimum.
Dress for the occasion. Have a think about what sort of clothes you wear on a day-to-day basis. For most of us, this will include comfortable sportswear, plenty of office attire and casual everyday pieces. There is nothing worse than being inappropriately dressed for an occasion, so make sure that you always have something suitable at hand. Do you love nights out with your friends but don’t own that perfect going-out dress? If this sounds familiar to you, it’s probably time to stock up!
Shop till you drop? By this stage your perfect wardrobe should be almost complete. However, it’s important not to go overboard and buy more than you need. If you’re serious about maintaining that personal style it’s important to stay focused. We all know how easy it is to indulge in spontaneous purchases and we’ve heard all the excuses before. Even if it’s a limited edition, on sale or buy one get one free, if you don’t really need it, just don’t buy it. This way your style will be consistent and your purse will thank you later!
Keep an eye on your wardrobe. Keep the structure of your wardrobe in check by having a clear out twice a year. Styles change and so too does our body shape, so you will probably find several items that no longer suit you anymore.
Aim to do this at the beginning of winter and summer so that you can start the new season afresh and will know if there is anything you desperately need for the coming months.
